Matt Collier watched seven lights rise up over a hill, form up in a straight line and move slowly away on Christmas night. He also witnessed the three lights seen on December 23 and said they had appeared from behind the power station chimney.
“Those lights were not of this world – it’s a UFO sighting,” he said.
He is planning to set up a video camera on the next clear night to record the lights if they appear again.
New sightings were also reported from as far away as Raglan, Coromandel and Nelson.
Daniel O’Neill said he saw seven lights in the skies north of the Raglan on Boxing Day.
